Foreigner and The Grammy Foundation Launch New Music Program

Band To Release Live DVD and CD This Summer via Razor & Tie and Tour With Journey

Foreigner and the GRAMMY Foundation are pleased to announce a new program that will help provide funds for high school music programs across the country. As part of Foreigner's on-going commitment to music education in high schools, the Grammy Foundation will join the band in a combined effort to fund individual high school music programs. At each concert on their summer tour with Journey, Foreigner will work with local radio and other media to initiate a contest to find a high school choir to sing "I Want To Know What Love Is" live on stage with Foreigner. Details of the contest will be announced shortly and each winning school will receive a grant of $1,000 from the GRAMMY Foundation. Foreigner is funding the grants out of the proceeds from the sales of their band's CD at venues. The tour commences on July 21st in Salt Lake City, UT and will run through the late fall. A non-profit organization established by The Recording Academy in 1989, the GRAMMY Foundation offers a range of music education programs under its GRAMMY in the Schools umbrella.

"As far as I'm concerned, music is not only the most powerful form of communication between the peoples of the world, it provides a gateway that opens up a fantastic new dimension of feeling and creativity and anything we can do to provide our young ones with the tools to express themselves through music is our goal in this partnership", said Foreigner's Mick Jones.

"Although there are vastly greater resources available for young people to make music today than previously, schools are still at the heart of providing basic education in how to play and create music, and do it well," said Kristen Madsen, Sr. Vice President of the GRAMMY Foundation. "It is a core reason that we continue to provide critical funds for high school music programs through our GRAMMY Signature Schools program and why this partnership with the iconic band Foreigner is such a natural fit for us."

This summer, Razor & Tie will release a brand new Foreigner package featuring the band's greatest hits, including such classics as "Hot Blooded", 'Cold As Ice", "Double Vision", "Waiting For A Girl Like You", "Juke Box Hero" and "I Want To Know What Love Is", a live DVD filmed in Chicago in March and a very special newly recorded CD. The live DVD performance will be featured in a PBS TV national broadcast in the summer.

Foreigner is currently celebrating almost 35 years of legendary success with total worldwide sales approaching 70 million and countless gold and platinum album awards around the globe. An impressive run of 14 Top 20 hits includes worldwide number one hit "I Want To Know What Love Is," "Cold As Ice," "Double Vision," "Head Games," "Urgent," "Waiting For A Girl Like You" and video game staples such as "Hot Blooded" and "Juke Box Hero." Foreigner's tours continue to electrify audiences and establish the group in its rightful place as one of the top touring attractions. Formed in 1976 by English rocker Mick Jones, the current lineup includes: Mick Jones (lead guitar), Kelly Hansen (lead vocals/ percussion), Jeff Pilson (bass guitar), Tom Gimbel (guitar/saxophone/flute), Michael Bluestein (keyboards), and Mark Schulman (drums).

For the first time in over 10 years, Foreigner and Journey will hit the road on a national tour. Tickets are now on sale through online, phone and physical retail outlets, including select Walmart Ticketmaster locations across the country.

Dave Stewart To Release "The Blackbird Diaries" On June 28th

Razor & Tie is thrilled to announce a partnership with Weapons of Mass Entertainment and Surfdog Records for the release of an exciting new album project from Artist/Producer/Director and Eurythmics co-founder, Dave Stewart. His new album, The Blackbird Diaries is set to be released on Tuesday, June 28th 2011. Recently completed in Nashville, the album was produced by Dave Stewart and Mike Bradford and was recorded and mixed b John McBride at his famed Blackbird Studio. The Blackbird Diaries is set to feature all new material including a co-write with Bob Dylan as well as duets with Stevie Nicks, Martina McBride, Colbie Caillat and features The Secret Sisters. Dave is backed throughout the album by a stellar assortment of musicians on the album including guitarist Tom Bukovac, drummer Chad Cromwell, bassist Michael Rhodes, steel guitarist Dan Dugmore and Mike Rojas on piano. As an integral part of Stevie Nicks new album, "In Your Dreams," (he was co-producer, co-writer, photographer, performer and movie director) Dave has been invited by Stevie as her special guest to perform at Webster Hall in New York City on May 4th.

Watch exclusive trailer about the upcoming companion film The Blackbird Diaries!!!

"This was my favorite time in the studio, I wrote most of the songs on the spot and recorded all of them in one incredible session lasting 5 days ang nights!," explains Dave Stewart. "I made an unusual film of the process that not only features all the musicians and performers but also gives away some of my writing secrets which involves both a well known fortune teller and hypnotist who allowed themselves to be filmed in session with me."

Dave Stewart's The Blackbird Diaries is unlike anything he has embarked on during his illustrious 30 year music career both with Eurythmics and as a solo artist. With an American flare and rooted in rock, country, and blues, the album is in the vein of recent releases by Bob Dylan and Neil Young - masterful recordings mixed with rich and detailed lyrics. The Blackbird Diaries showcases a very different type of songwriting for Stewart with more story-driven autobiographical lyrics, which is a departure from the pop/rock sounds which have made him one of the most successful and revered songwriters/collaborators of all the time. Tales of loves conquered and loves lost, Dave gets intimate, personal with words while he allows his music to rock free on an album that might just prove to be this artist's second, and perhaps, finest, act.
A multi-media entrepreneur, Dave Stewart is recognized as one of the most respected and accomplished talents in the entertainment industry today. His career spans more than 100 million album sales, plus a Lifetime Achievement Award with Eurythmics partner Annie Lennox. With Lennox, Stewart delivered ingenious pop/rock hits such as "Here Comes The Rain Again," "Would I Lie To You," "Missionary Man," and "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)". One of the most sought-after writers and music producers, Dave has crafted songs for and collaborated with the likes of Mick Jagger, Bono, Tom Petty and Gwen Stefani (to name a few) and has shared the stage with everybody from BB King, U2, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. Stewart has won Best British Producer four times and Best British Songwriter five times, as well as numerous Grammy, MTV, and European awards. A highly-regarded artist and filmmaker, Stewart has scored and penned the title songs for many hit movies throughout the years, including the Mick Jagger collaboration for the film Alfie, which won the pair a Golden Globe. He produced the award-winning documentary Deep Blues, and his feature directorial debut Honest premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000. Stewart and songwriter/producer Glen Ballard recently wrote a musical adaptation of the 1990 Jerry Zucker film Ghost, which opens in London's West End in June this year. This year Stewart also co-wrote and co-produced Joss Stone's new album as well as Stevie Nicks' new album "In Your Dreams" which marks the first occasion Nicks has ever collaborated on a solo album.

"We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Dave. He is a legend who has been associated with all kinds of quality music for years and The Blackbird Diaries is an amazing accomplishment. We will hunt and kill for him," adds Cliff Chenfeld, Co-Owner Razor & Tie.

Dave Stewart is the latest addition to join the leading independent label Razor & Tie and the diverse and acclaimed roster that includes such artists as Foreigner, Vanessa Carlton, Richard Ashcroft, Nicole Atkins, Angelique Kidjo, Dave Barnes, All That Remains, Norma Jean, Dweezil Zappa, Dar Williams, Chelsea Grin and The Summer Set. Nicole Atkins Visits NPR's World Cafe, Performs at VEVO's SXSW Powerstation

Nicole Atkins has stayed extremely busy since the release of her critically acclaimed album, Mondo Amore, and has a lot to show for it this week.

Last week Nicole visited NPR's World Cafe for a live chat and performance. Listen to her talk about the inspiration behind the new album and co-writing, as well as performances of "You Come To Me," "Cry Cry Cry" and "The Tower."

Click here to listen to the performance. (

Nicole took SXSW by storm this year, playing parties for Paste, Rolling Stone, Steve Madden and Sneak Attack, as well as an official showcase which was broadcast on last Friday's Last Call with Carson Daly.

Time Magazine featured Nicole as one of the "Ten Acts That Rocked South By Southwest," saying that Nicole and her band The Black Sea "put on a soulful, captivating show, with a lush, dark wall of sound behind Atkins' wailing vocals of love gone bad. The audience stood transfixed and some surely joined a growing list of devotees."

SPIN called Nicole Atkins & The Black Sea "The Best Live Band" of SXSW, saying Nicole "poured herself into the dark torch song "Hotel Plaster," praying for a lover's embrace while stuck in a hotel room, then later she was Janis Joplin's big-winded kid sister, wailing on an extended blues solo."

While down in Austin, Nicole stopped by the VEVO Powerstation, which was actually set up in an abandoned power plant. Amongst the pipes and metal, she cranked out a sweet rendition of "Cry Cry Cry."
