KELLY SWEET LENDS VOICE OF SUPPORT TO YWCA; SWEET PERFORMS SPECIAL CONCERT FOR YWCA WEEK WITHOUT VIOLENCE IN OCTOBER
NEW SINGLE "DREAM ON" RECEIVING GREAT REACTION AT RADIO
(New York, NY) - Razor & Tie recording artist Kelly Sweet will lend her music and voice to support the important mission of the YWCA USA. Sweet's first initiative is to bring awareness to the problem of domestic and intimate partner violence, particularly against America's young women. Kelly will be an official spokesperson for the YWCA Week Without Violence starting on October 14th and will close the week with a performance on October 19th at Marymount University in Arlington Virginia. Consistent with the theme of this year's YWCA Week Without Violence, "Enough!", Kelly will be spreading the word about the YWCA's outstanding work to empower women through this campaign and other YWCA outreach efforts. Songs from Kelly's debut album, WE ARE ONE, will be used in various public outreach efforts during 2008, which is YWCA 150th anniversary year.
"We are excited to have Kelly adding her voice to our quest to empower women and bring attention to the countless women who are threatened by violence in this country and around the world," said Lorraine Cole, Ph.D., YWCA USA CEO.
The YWCA Week Without Violence is a nationwide annual campaign that highlights practical, sustainable alternatives to violence in our homes, schools, workplaces and communities. To commemorate the 2007 YWCA Week Without Violence, held October 14th-20th, the YWCA USA is declaring Enough! to violence by providing comprehensive resources to millions of people around the country to help them eradicate violence from their lives. A grassroots initiative when it began in 1995, today the YWCA Week Without Violence is a global campaign involving women, men and children in hundreds of communities in the United States and in countries around the world.
In other Sweet news, the second single, "Dream On," from her debut album, WE ARE ONE, has just been serviced to radio and is receiving a great response. The single is set to climb the charts in the coming weeks. USA Today raved, "Sweet's relentlessly soothing vocals exhibit lovely tone…her "Dream On" is a must." Recently, Jack Douglas, the producer of the Aerosmith's original recording of the track described Sweet's cover; "Beautiful...sounds like it was written yesterday. Can't wait for the "Boys" to hear it." The song arrives on the heels of the breakout success of the first single from her debut album WE ARE ONE, "Raincoat," which spent weeks in the top 10 on both the AC and Smooth Jazz Charts. The song spent over seven months in the top 30 on both charts making Sweet the highest-charting indie label artist at the AC format this year. Sweet recently wrapped up a 20 city summer tour playing for over 2,000 people a night supporting Dave Koz.

ANGELIQUE KIDJO TRAVELS TO AFRICA FOR CHARITABLE MISSIONS - INCLUDING WORK FOR HER OWN NEWLY-CREATED BATONGA ORGANIZATION
PROCEEDS FROM NEW VIDEO TO BE DONATED TO OXFAM
(New York, NY) - Only days after wrapping up the support slot of the second leg of Josh Groban's sold-out North American tour, Angelique Kidjo has headed to her home continent of Africa to continue with her dedication to global charity work. The first week of September found Kidjo traveling to the eastern part of Chad, a highly-insecure part of the country which borders on the war-torn region of Darfur in Sudan. Kidjo and other prominent female activists, including former Irish President Mary Robinson, visited refugee camps filled with women who have fled from Darfur, to distribute humanitarian aid.
The trip to Chad was a call to step up the pressure on world leaders to use all diplomatic means to establish an immediate ceasefire in Darfur. There are now more than 4 million people in need of humanitarian aid in Darfur, with 2 million of them living as virtual prisoners in camps they are too scared to leave. In eastern Chad, there are some 230,000 Darfuri refugees in 12 camps, with another 180,000 displaced Chadians forced from their homes. The trip to Chad was documented by Reuters Television – video footage and stills are available.
Kidjo has a longstanding relationship with the aid agency OXFAM whose humanitarian work she saw firsthand in the refugee camps of Chad. The OXFAM link will soon extend into the medium of her first love, music. "Gimme Shelter," the first music video from Kidjo's highly-acclaimed album DJIN DJIN, will be available for purchase on iTunes. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of every video which features Joss Stone will be donated to OXFAM.
The second week of September took Kidjo to her home country of Benin, for a UNICEF-sponsored trip where she focused on work for UNICEF and her own newly-created charity, Batonga. For UNICEF, Kidjo highlighted the issue of child trafficking in Benin and launched a national campaign to enroll girls in school aptly titled, "All Girls To School." For more information, please visit UNICEF's website.
Batonga's main goal is to create a culture that values and supports the secondary education of girls in Africa. Kidjo has long-believed that education is the key to precipitating change in her home continent. Kidjo stated, "Batonga is a word not found in dictionaries but it is a yearning in the hearts and minds of all African girls who dream of a better future for themselves and society. I know girls can change Africa; I know girls can make a difference."
Batonga's contribution will center on building secondary schools with student populations that are 50% girls; providing tuition for girls in both secondary school and university; training teachers to upgrade their skills and increase their sensitivity to the needs of girls; and providing mentors to help girls thrive in cultures that do not traditionally support their being in school. At least half of the girls targeted by Batonga will be AIDS orphans who have lost one or both parents to the disease, and these girls will receive additional support so that they can live with relatives or in foster or group homes instead of orphanages or worse, the streets. Batonga's initial geographic focus includes Kidjo's home country of Benin, Senegal, Cameroon, Mali, Malawi, Rwanda and Ethiopia.
