CAPLAN NAMED RAZOR & TIE EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, A & R
RISING SOUL SINGER RYAN SHAW MOVES TO RAZOR & TIE
(New York, NY) - Michael Caplan has been named Executive Vice President, A&R for Razor & Tie Entertainment, based at the company's headquarters in New York City. The announcement was made by Razor & Tie Co-Owners Cliff Chenfeld and Craig Balsam, to whom Caplan will report. Chenfeld and Balsam commented, "We are very excited that Michael has decided to join Razor & Tie. With the success of Kelly Sweet, Angelique Kidjo and All That Remains, we are making a very aggressive push on the new music front and believe that Michael will be a key player for us".
Caplan stated, "I am happy to be returning to the world of indie-dom. I've known Cliff and Craig for over fifteen years and have always been impressed by them as businessmen, but also as people. I am thrilled and proud to be part of their team." Caplan was most recently Senior Vice President, A&R for Columbia Records and President of One Haven Music. He will work closely with Razor & Tie Senior Director, A&R, Beka Callaway.
Caplan brings to Razor & Tie the incredibly talented young soul singer, Ryan Shaw. Razor & Tie will immediately take over the marketing and distribution of Shaw's debut album THIS IS RYAN SHAW. Released a few months ago on One Haven/RED, the album has earned the Decatur, Georgia native glowing reviews. Billboard declared, "The Georgia native establishes himself as a massive talent with a huge voice straight out of the gate. THIS IS RYAN SHAW resuscitates soul in an electrifying way..." The Los Angeles Times said, "Prepare to have your soul rocked...", while The San Francisco Chronicle said of Shaw, "He achieves the perfect balance between raw passion and melisma-rich vocal prowess." Shaw will appear on "The CBS Saturday Early Show" on Saturday, July 28th and is currently on tour in the United States, playing select dates with Joss Stone.
Michael Caplan began his career working for Morris Levy, after dropping out of law school three weeks into his first year. From 1978-1980, Caplan held the position of Operations Manager at the Strawberries record chain in Boston, MA. In 1980, he began working for Polygram Records in Merchandising/Sales, also in Boston. In 1981, Caplan relocated to Hartford, CT to become Local Promotion Manager for Epic Records and in 1983 was promoted to Director of AOR Promotion for the label and moved to New York City.
Caplan moved to the A&R department at Epic in 1983 where he remained for twenty years, signing such artists as Ginuwine, Living Color, Keb'Mo', The Allman Brothers, Tower Of Power, Firehouse and G. Love. In 2003, he started Or Music, where he signed Matisyahu and Grammy Award-winners Los Lonely Boys. In 2006, Caplan returned to Sony/BMG as Senior Vice President, A&R, and also was President, One Haven Music, his own imprint, a position he held for almost two years.

RAZOR & TIE TO RELEASE KIDZ BOP 12 JULY 31ST: EXCITEMENT SURROUNDS LAUNCH OF NEW WEBSITE, EXCITEMENT SURROUNDS LAUNCH OF NEW WEBSITE, LIVE STAGE SHOW AND NATIONAL TALENT SEARCH
(New York, NY) - On July 31st, Razor & Tie Entertainment will release KIDZ BOP 12, the latest volume in the best-selling children's music series. Like its predecessors, the album will feature today's most popular songs sung by kids for kids.
A phenomenon among kids 4-11 and a favorite among parents, KIDZ BOP has been named the #1 children's music series from 2002 through 2006 by Billboard. The series has sold more than 10 million CDs since launching six years ago, with nine Gold-certified releases. Each of its last five releases debuted in the top 10 of Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart.
The release of KIDZ BOP 12 comes on the heels of the relaunch of KIDZBOP.com and the announcement of the KIDZ BOP WORLD TOUR, the company's first live, interactive stage show. NATIONAL MUSIC SENSATION KIDZ BOP RELAUNCHES WEBSITE WITH FIRST EVER NATIONAL TALENT SEARCH: WINNERS WILL STAR IN AN OFFICIAL KIDZ BOP VIDEO AND RECEIVE A BEACHES RESORTS ALL-INCLUSIVE FAMILY VACATION
(New York, NY) - With the popularity of talent competitions for adults at an all time high, now it's possible for kids to get into the act and attain stardom. On July 3rd, KIDZ BOP, the most popular and most recognized children's audio series in the U.S., will relaunch its website KIDZBOP.com with the introduction of the "Be a KIDZ BOP Star" National Talent Search.
For the talent search - whose prizes include a starring role in an official KIDZ BOP music video and an all-inclusive family vacation to Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort & Spa - kids of all ages are invited to audition for KIDZ BOP by creating a video of themselves performing, and uploading it to the site. They can choose their own performance, keeping in mind the criteria for selection: style, musical talent, star quality, and personality. Kids can enter as many times as they want.
All submissions from the entire talent search will be posted on the KIDZ BOP site, allowing children everywhere to share their audition videos with friends and family, watch other kids' audition videos, and even vote for themselves. The deadline for video submissions is September 3rd, after which KIDZ BOP will choose and post the 15 top videos. After a two-week voting period in September at www.KIDZBOP.com, the four winning kids will be announced the first week of October, and in November they will join their families on a once-in-a-lifetime all-inclusive Caribbean vacation to shoot a KIDZ BOP music video on site at Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort & Spa in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos (air travel courtesy of Orbitz).
